The iPad, one of the most anticipated gadgets in history, is here. And the stakes, clearly, are high: to my knowledge, this is the first time Apple has referred to one of their products as "magical." Here's what it's like to play with one.
On stage, demo'd from afar by Steve Jobs, the iPad is basically a giant 9.7-inch, 1024 x 768 iPhone. But when it's in your hand, the story changes significantly.
More than ever before, Apple has minimized every element of a device that's not the... |

Apple has launched its long-awaited iPad, but the full version, if it becomes available to Canadians at all, may cost a lot to use.
Chief executive Steve Jobs announced the device — basically a supersized iPod Touch — on Wednesday to a crowd of Apple faithful at an event in San Francisco. The iPad is about the size of a hardcover book, half an inch thick and with a 9.7-inch multi-touch screen, similar to the iPod Touch and iPhone. The device can surf the web using its Safari browser... |

At first, I don’t really see the need for anyone to buy an iPod Touch when it can’t even send messages or receive calls. In short, it’s not a phone. However, with the release of this device, I might just change my mind.
For one, I really adore the iPod Touch though it is without camera, 3G Internet, GPS and compass. But this new device, called the G-Fi, can now add GPS to your iPod Touch through its WiFi capability. The G-Fi acts like a MiFi since it can create a mobile WiFi hotspot... |

Computer intelligence is getting more human every day. They solve problems like humans, they communicate like humans, and now, they're ruining the world's financial markets just like humans. NYSE Euronext, the trans-Atlantic regulatory body that monitors stock trading, has fined Credit Suisse's trading division for failing to monitor a computer trading algorithm that misconducted hundreds of thousands of stock transactions.
According to the Financial Times, algorithms handle 60 percent... |

As we have been fervently wishing for some perfect tablet to land on our laps, here’s Dell reminding us that we can settle for its Mini 5 Android Slate for now.
The 5-inch screen that supports multitouch has a custom Android, SIM port (to make calls), WiFi capability and Bluetooth connectivity. Like the iPod Touch, it feels light and more “plastic-y.” But, I daresay it is solid from the look and feel of it. Making a call with Dell’s Mini Slate will make you look like you’re holding... |
